Ederson: We hope to win the championship every season
Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson spoke to the club's official website about various topics, including his idol Gianluigi Buffon.
On the role of goalkeepers in passing tactics
Ederson stated, "This process is very important for us, especially during the organization phase of the game. When I first joined Manchester City, I practiced this aspect a lot more. Now, due to the numerous matches in such a short time, we can't train this area as much." He added, "I always try to review the games and see if my decisions were correct or if there were better options. For me, the key is to stay calm in this aspect and foresee possibilities before things happen, looking for opportunities to pass to my teammates, because 95% of the time, one of my teammates will be in space."
On his idol Buffon (the highest-scoring goalkeeper)
Ederson remarked, "I haven't had many opportunities to practice penalties; maybe I've practiced them once or twice in training. I always tell my teammates that if we get to a penalty shootout, I want to take one, and I want to take the fifth!" He added, "It's all about pressure, but I try to stay calm, which is the main difference. I work hard to remain composed, just like in training, and relax myself. Many players feel this pressure, and I do too, but that's what I enjoy."
On the Premier League
Ederson expressed, "We want to win the championship every season, but each season has different matches, with new players and signings. Some players get injured, and there are still 96 points up for grabs this season, so many things can happen." He continued, "Every match is different, and every team will earn points and lose points. We are currently in second place, and there will be many changes this season, but I hope we can maintain stability and stay near the top."
