Embiid: I probably won't play back-to-back games for the rest of my career
Recently, ESPN reporter Tim Bontemps conducted an interview with the Philadelphia 76ers. The team's star player, Joel Embiid, discussed his injuries, load management, and other related issues.
Embiid stated, "Personally, I have done everything, but there is still one thing missing: winning a championship... If I had to guess, I probably won’t play back-to-back games for the rest of my career." Earlier, Embiid also mentioned during Media Day, "We have to do everything we can to ensure I stay healthy for the playoffs."
Embiid will continue to wear a brace on his left knee, despite his reluctance: "It’s the right choice. For me, it’s a mental issue. I hate it, but I’m starting to tell myself that I have to do it; it’s the only way for me to get on the court."
Additionally, team manager Daryl Morey said, "We will take a wise approach, one of which is to ensure that both Paul George and Embiid do not play consecutive games if there are any injury concerns."
Over the past eight seasons, Embiid has played in only 433 of the 637 games, not including the games he missed in the first two years of his career due to foot injuries.
For head coach Nick Nurse, this plan should feel familiar. During the 2018-19 season, when the Raptors won the championship, Nurse managed Kawhi Leonard. During that period, Leonard played only 60 games and sat out every back-to-back game. This strategy helped Leonard appear in all 24 playoff games for the Raptors, averaging 39.1 minutes per game and scoring 30.5 points.
