Lewandowski: Szczesny will adapt quickly to Barcelona

Poland captain Robert Lewandowski attended the national team's press conference, where he discussed Szczęsny joining Barcelona, his outstanding performances under coach Flick, the upcoming Nations League clash against Portugal and Cristiano Ronaldo, as well as the farewell ceremony for Szczęsny and Krychowiak.

Szczesny joining Barcelona
"When a new player joins, you have to show them every corner of the dressing room, make them feel comfortable and at ease. The same goes for Szczęsny. With his experience and attitude toward life, I believe he will adapt quickly."
"I can reveal that before everything happened, Wojciech had told me that if he were to continue his career, the club he wanted to join was exactly the one he eventually chose. A short break from football didn’t hurt him; it might have even revitalized him. I’m sure he’ll contribute to Barcelona many times."

Facing Portugal
"It's clear that Portugal is a top-tier team. We know the kind of opponent we’re up against, how they control the game and showcase their strength. Playing at home, we hope to improve on the areas we lacked in our match against Croatia."
"In that game, we were slow to react at times. But now we have the chance to train together, and we’ll be doing two to three more training sessions than usual. This is important for us to work on some tactical details."

Performing well at Barcelona
"At Barcelona, we all look better on the pitch. That’s because I get more opportunities, more passes. The team is in great form, and everyone is performing at their level, blending everything together. We’re grounded; the season is long, and we won’t get carried away by the results we’ve already achieved. We want to maintain this level and improve even further."
"Toward the end of last season, I started focusing more on my form. Every coach has their own ideas and philosophy. We have many talented players, and at my age, I know how important it is to help them reach their full potential."

On Barça coach Flick
"Not many players have followed coach Flick from Bayern. I don’t think he has simply transplanted Bayern’s system; he’s adapted it to this team. His experience helps him manage the players better. We have a good relationship, and sometimes we don’t need much communication—I already know what to do and what the coach expects from me."

Facing Cristiano Ronaldo
"My approach to the upcoming match is to see it as Poland versus Portugal, not a showdown with Cristiano Ronaldo. Of course, I understand how he has changed the history of football, but this is a clash between two national teams. We can only face Portugal as a team because they have many excellent players."
"Cristiano Ronaldo has set high standards for many players. Throughout my career, I’ve always aimed to reach or even sometimes surpass those standards. But that’s football history, and he’s a great figure."
"What I admire most about Cristiano Ronaldo is his determination. Despite having achieved everything, at 39 years old, he still maintains that ambition."

Saying goodbye to Szczęsny and Krychowiak
"The two people we’re talking about have not only been with me during training camps for years but have also accompanied me in life. They will be missed by everyone, not just as players but also as individuals with strong personalities. The time we spent training, playing, and laughing together over the years—those moments will always be cherished. I can only thank them and express my gratitude for being part of this team, traveling the world with them. They’re the kind of people who always add extra value to the team. We all know how much they’ve contributed to the Poland national team and how invaluable they are."
