Eibar Signs Free Agent Forward Merquelanz from Real Sociedad

Eibar has officially announced the signing of free agent Martin Merquelanz. After being out of action for nearly three seasons, Merquelanz will need a period of assessment.

Martin Merquelanz Castellanos was born on June 12, 1995, in Irún, Gipuzkoa. He received his football training at Dunboa Football and Antiguoko. Merquelanz joined Real Sociedad's youth academy in 2012, where he participated in the UEFA Youth League for the 2013/14 season. He was promoted to Real Sociedad B team for the 2014/15 season and was subsequently loaned out to Mirandés and Rayo Vallecano.

Merquelanz primarily plays as a left winger and left midfielder, but he has also featured as a central midfielder, attacking midfielder, right winger, right midfielder, and right back.

Merquelanz has suffered two anterior cruciate ligament injuries over consecutive seasons, and due to complex cartilage issues, he has been unable to return to the pitch for the past two seasons, with his last official appearance being in September 2021. However, after undergoing a third surgery, Merquelanz's condition has improved.

In his professional career, Merquelanz has made 18 appearances for Real Sociedad's first team, without scoring but providing 1 assist.
