To meet Europa League registration requirements, Tottenham Hotspur is monitoring Edwards and Walker-Peters
According to journalist Dan Kilpatrick from the Evening Standard, Tottenham Hotspur is eyeing their former academy players Edwards and Walker-Peters due to considerations regarding Europa League registration requirements.
Following the departures of Tanganga and Sessegnon, Tottenham faces a dilemma in meeting the criteria for the UEFA player list in the upcoming Europa League season. UEFA regulations stipulate that clubs must include four "locally trained players" aged between 15 and 21, who have been registered with the club for three seasons.
With Tanganga's departure, Tottenham currently only has four eligible players in their squad: goalkeepers Austin and Whiteman, along with Skipp and Parrott. Skipp is eager for more first-team opportunities next season and may leave this summer, while Parrott faces an uncertain future after a successful loan spell in the Eredivisie.
Tottenham also needs to have at least four "association-trained players," who have been registered with clubs in England or Wales for three years between the ages of 15 and 21. Currently, Tottenham has seven eligible players, including Foster, Ben Davies, Madison, Brendan Johnson, Joe Rodon, Spencer, and Ashley Phillips. However, several of them may be loaned out or transferred.
If Tottenham fails to meet the criteria for locally trained players, they will have to promote a player under 21 to their Europa League "A list," potentially meaning the exclusion of a talented foreign star. One option for Tottenham is to replace Austin, Whiteman, Skipp, or Parrott with a former academy player. They have been monitoring forward Edwards from Sporting CP and defender Walker-Peters from Southampton, both of whom are Tottenham academy graduates and meet UEFA's registration requirements.
