Liverpool will announce today that Richard Hughes will be their new sporting director

According to talkSPORT. The former Scottish player Hughes will leave his position as technical director at Bournemouth at the end of this season to join Anfield.

Hughes, who played for Bournemouth and Portsmouth, joined Bournemouth's recruitment team after retiring and rose to the position of technical director during the club's time in the Premier League. The Cherries announced on March 5th that he would be leaving at the end of this season. His task will be to help develop Liverpool's squad following the departure of legendary coach Klopp.

Hughes will be assisted by former sporting director Michael Edwards, who will return to the club as the football CEO at Anfield. One of Edwards and Hughes' primary tasks will be to find Klopp's successor, with former Liverpool player Xabi Alonso being seen as the preferred choice for the role. Since last summer, Liverpool has not had a permanent sporting director, with Edwards' successor, Julian Ward, leaving the club less than a year after taking over.

The club temporarily hired German Matthias Schmätke to assist Klopp during the summer transfer window, which saw Liverpool sign MacAllister, Soboslai, Endo, and Herafin Beh. Hughes began his 17-year professional career at Arsenal, although he never played for the first team.
