Argentinian goalkeeper Rulli joins Marseille

Marseille has officially announced the signing of Ajax goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli. According to Fabrizio Romano, the transfer fee exceeds €3 million, and the agreement is for three years.

Marseille Official Statement:

The club is pleased to announce the signing of Gerónimo Rulli from Ajax. The 32-year-old goalkeeper joins the club following a successful medical examination.

Rulli began his professional career at his hometown club Estudiantes de La Plata, where he was trained in Argentina. On April 9, 2013, at the age of 20, he made his professional debut for Estudiantes.

After making 50 appearances for Estudiantes, the Argentine goalkeeper transferred to Real Sociedad in Spain in 2014. Rulli is a dynamic and agile goalkeeper known for his ability to turn games around. Despite his young age, he performed exceptionally well in La Liga.

During his time at Real Sociedad, he played 180 matches and caught the attention of Argentine coach Lionel Scaloni. In September 2018, the 1.89-meter tall goalkeeper made his debut for the Argentine national team. He then joined Montpellier in the summer of 2019, where he made 28 appearances.

In 2020, after a successful season at Montpellier, Rulli signed with Villarreal. During his time with the Yellow Submarine, he was a key player in the team’s Europa League victory in the 2020-2021 season, notably saving a decisive penalty in the final against Manchester United.

After making 80 appearances for Villarreal, Rulli transferred to Ajax in 2023 and made 28 appearances last season. As an experienced and leadership-oriented goalkeeper, Rulli has won the 2022 UEFA Super Cup, the 2022 World Cup, and the 2024 Copa América.

Welcome to Marseille, Gerónimo!
